Welcome to RECEPTION
Early Years Foundation Stage
In Early Years, the children learn to be independent, they develop social skills and they build the foundations for lifelong learning.
Here at St Thomas’, Reception follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Development Matters framework. These statements follow children from 0-5 years old and end with the Early Learning Goals at the end of the Reception year.
We lead group tasks; initiate play; observe the children on a task and set up learning environments that encourage children to learn. Our curriculum is child-led and exciting, it gives children ample opportunities to be outdoors and problem solve.
Phonics is taught daily. We use Sounds-Write to give the children a speedy start to Reading and Writing independently. We encourage you to read with your child at least 4 times per week; enjoy reading, talk about books and encourage children to “Say the sounds and read the word”.
