This afternoon, the children took part in a challenging, thought-provoking and emotionally stimulating workshop from Refat Mahmood.

She challenged their beliefs and stereotypes, presenting the children with the concept of ‘same difference’. The children were challenged to provide a definition of what makes people different, and if we are actually the same.

All of Year 6 were full of insightful ideas and questions. They engaged in an activity where we were shown 9 photographs of people. We were told to look at the images and think which could be possible terrorists. It was aimed to portray to our children that extremist views are not singlular to one part of society.

At the end of our session, the children also had a chance to try on different clothes and interact with items from various cultures.

Refat left the children with a lot to ponder.
